The Price Of A Diamond

THEY CUT THE HANDS of women, men

and eight year old children

to get diamonds to you.

People enslaved worse than trees

and you demonstrate for the whales

the forests and the penguins

with a diamond on your finger.

Next time you receive a present

think of little hands that will never caress

their children

think of fingers chopped to make yours beautiful

think of amputated legs and hands

Think of the future of amputated Africa.

The Land Of Freedom

NOBODY IS GOING TO give you freedom

you'll have to take it

and take the risks, even

in a democratic country

the only freedom you'll get is

to be like they expect you to be

to be like the others you see.

But to be free you'll have to be different

you'll have to pull the fences

and to be ridiculed, laughed at,

those who love you

telling you that you are crazy, that they

can't understand what you're after,

that there is nothing else

that you are wrong,

that you are destroying yourself,

when you hear all these together

you'll know you have conquered some land

in the land of freedom.
